Does anyone know how to see (and change) the name of a field as soon as you have added it from an XML mapping?

Apparently it is not the name as shown in the field, as when I copy the field and change the name (to have another field in my Word document), it is also changed in the originally added XML field. When I review the properties of the field, there is no name shown at all.
