while googling about this issue ,i came a cross a potential workaround beside the one you've already mentioned above, the workaround based on stopping specific event receiver (EWSSharePointEventReceiver , may be there is different one in your environment) which was firing on specific action and caused some problem in the environment , anyway you need to go through the detailed step-by-step mentioned here.
