It sounds as though in your default view you have the sort sequence set as a date (maybe start date?). You can fix this on the View:Data tab (in Project 2010) then select Sort and by ID (or Project->Sort in 2007). Save the project. Next time you open it, the tasks should be in the sequence in which you added them to the end of the WBS.
