I am often confronted with a customer's totally dead Win XP or Vista System. Naturally, I offer to build a new system for them and transfer their data from their Old Hard drive to the new computer.

So in the past this has been a relatively simple matter of plugging the old hard drive into the new system and copying the user data across to the new Hard Drive. But Windows 7 denies access to User folders on old hard drives. Now I have found how to take ownership of these folders and grant myself permission to get at the data therein - but it can be a long slow process and even when ownership and permissions are gained I find some items remain inaccessable. So I'm just wondering
